On Sunday, October 25, 2026, the General Directorate of Civil Protection (DGDPC), in coordination with the Permanent Secretariat for Risk and Disaster Management (SPGRD), placed the West, Grand'Anse, Nippes, South, and South-East departments under an Orange Alert, while the Nord-Ouest and Artibonite departments have been placed under a Yellow Alert. This decision follows the presence of low-pressure systems over the Caribbean Sea, which continue to cause heavy rain and strong winds.

The DGDPC and the SPGRD issued an orange alert due to a high risk of flooding, landslides, rockfalls, and rough sea conditions in the affected departments. Significant rainfall has already been recorded in several municipalities.

Given these conditions, the General Directorate of Civil Protection urges the public, especially those residing in high-risk areas, to follow these safety guidelines :

• Stay informed by regularly checking weather bulletins and directives from the authorities and Civil Protection. Do not pay attention to rumors;

• If you live near ravines, watercourses prone to flash flooding, or along the coastline, make arrangements to move to a temporary shelter or another residence located in an area less exposed to flooding;

• If you live in an area prone to landslides or mudslides, move to a safe location and coordinate with your loved ones in case an evacuation becomes necessary.

• Secure or bring indoors any outdoor items that could be blown away by the wind, such as trash cans, tools, signs, decorative lights, etc...;

• If necessary, take precautions to protect your watercraft (boats, canoes, etc...); move them and secure them firmly, well away from the shoreline;

• Look out for vulnerable elderly individuals, people with disabilities, and children. Show solidarity and offer them your support.
