Haiti - Health : 45% fewer Community Health Workers in the South...

During a workshop of the Ministry of Public Health in Cap Haitien that ended on September 21, with the overall objective of improving access to care and the performance of community health interventions, Dr. Noël Francisco, in his speech, drew attention to a significant loss of Multi-skilled Community Health Workers (ASCP) in Haiti : 45% in the South and nearly 20% in Grande Anse.

To assess this situation throughout the national territory, a new study is being implemented by the Human Resources Department with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP - Haiti), to map family health teams, update data on ASCPs, assess the areas covered, working conditions and the reporting system.

The results of this study will make it possible to develop a capacity building plan for ASCPs and family health teams, which is essential to improve the efficiency of the health system.

For Ms. Mermoze Herard Sterlin, Director of Human Resources at the Ministry, the digitalization project aims to avoid the repetition of surveys and is part of a broader effort to reconfigure the Interdepartmental Human Resources Management System (SIGRH), with data already entered for more than 2,000 ASCPs. The HRD calls for the collaboration of Departmental Health Directors to facilitate the work of the Operational Working Group responsible for data collection.

Two other central directorates of the Ministry, the Health Decentralization Support Unit (UADS) and the Infectious and Communicable Diseases Coordination Unit (UCMIT) largely contributed to the success of the workshop.
