Haiti - Diplomacy : American Ambassador Kenneth Merten back in Haiti

Following the departure from Haiti of American Ambassador Michèle Jeanne Sison at the end of her mission, Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Tuesday, October 12 that she was replaced by Ambassador Kenneth Merten "I am proud to announce that Ambassador Kenneth Merten will return to the United States Embassy in Haiti to serve as Chargé d’Affaires," adding "The United States is a steadfast partner to Haiti, and we remain committed to supporting the Haitian people."

Merten is returning as Chargé d'Affaires, and not officially as Ambassador, as Senate Republicans are blocking President Biden’s nominations for the moment.

Let's recall that Kenneth H. Merten was Ambassador in Port-au-Prince between 2009 and 2012, United States Special Coordinator for Haiti during the 2015-2016 election period and left only good memories...

What is his mission ? His roadmap ? No one knows it yet, but one just have to wait for his first intervention to find out more.
