As part of World Environment Day (June 5), Prime Minister Joseph Jouthe delivered a special message that we invite you to read :

Message from Prime Minister Jouthe :

"In addition to the health crisis linked to the Coridavirus Covid-19, the socio-political and economic crises plaguing our Nation, there is another much more violent and cruel crisis which is on the point of wiping us out as a people if, however , we do not combine our energy at the same time as what the evidence requires. We are talking about the environmental crisis.

By dint of having shown no respect for our living space, our mother nature, by adopting unorthodox behavior, we are currently suffering the consequences. With each rain that falls on the country, the effect is catastrophic. Tons of alluvium, mud and water fill the streets and make traffic difficult. The watersheds of different regions express their fed up with our barbaric acts against nature. We built where we shouldn't. Our hills have been stripped.

At each street demonstration in Haiti, we cut fruit and forest trees, we burn tires, we destroy trash cans, we scatter litter everywhere. These are behaviors that dishonor us in the face of the world. We attack nature and increase pollution and misery in Haiti.

The flora and fauna are declaring war on us now. The green and shaded spaces which, in time, constituted a haven of peace and could, to a large extent, provide a well-being rose up against us. We are seriously running out of oxygen. The air is heavy and becomes toxic in places. The main sources of water that watered our land show low flow. Others are simply dried up.

The consequences of things are going to be more dire if we do not take the necessary action to correct the mistakes made. We are facing an impending emergency requiring the collaboration and understanding of everyone. Although we deplore the lives taken by covid-19, noise pollution, air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions have decreased slightly since the onset of the disease due to the slowdown in activities. This allowed us, once again, to understand that man has become the main factor harmful to his environment through his irresponsible behavior.

Today, June 5, 2020, the date marking World Environment Day celebrated this year on the theme of 'Biodiversity', the time has come for us, 'native' , to save our country. Responsible and caring behavior towards our mother nature is essential to make us forgive and fully enjoy the exhilarating joys that our lands brought to its inhabitants. We must therefore ensure a more rational management of our living space. It's more than an imperative, it's a question of breath and life. We have to save our land."
