Haiti - Environment : The town halls of Cap-Haïtien, Quartier-Morin and Limonade angry !

On Friday, the protest movement of the Town Halls of Cap-Haitien, Quartier-Morin and Limonade continued with the blocking once again of the National Road #6, to demand President Jovenel Moïse and the businessman Lesly Nazon to unblock the construction of the first scientific dumping site in the Caribbean, whose work has been stalled since 2018.

The World Bank (WB), the French Development Agency (AFD) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) are the main financial partners for this US $33.5 million project, which will cover 19 hectares of land, which was started 10 years ago...

Recall that this important project of landfill and waste treatment in the district of Cap-Haitien, of which 10 million have already been invested for the beginning of the work is at the center of a land dispute with the businessman Lesly Nazon claiming rights on the land located in Mouchinette, in the commune of Limonade, where should be built this landfill, and who obtained a court order suspending the work https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-27638-haiti-environment-a-businessman-blocks-the-landfill-of-limonade.html , decision appealed to the Court of Cassation by the General Direction of the taxes (DGI) in the name of the Haitian State.

Jude Edouard Pierre Mayor of Carrefour and President of the National Federation of Mayors of Haiti (FENAMH) who gives his full support to the mayors of Cap Haitien, Quartier Morin and Limonade, welcomes the attitude of the DGI in this case and asks the Head of State to declare the site of "public utility", highlighting the environmental importance of this waste treatment site evoking in particular the state of insalubrity of Cap-Haitian.
