Haiti - Elections : The Senate passed the electoral law, after amendments...

Wednesday, senators voted [15 votes for, 0 against, 0 abstentions] the electoral law after having introduced several changes, including some important, to more than a dozen articles, including on the Directorate General of the CEP that becomes an Executive Board ; the tenure of senators who refers to the Constitution amended of 1987 (6 years) and not to the electoral law of 2008 (5 years) currently in force...

Due to amendments made ​​to the legislation, the electoral law was not passed in identical terms by deputies, the text must be returned to the Lower House for further ratification. Some of these amendments are likely to face strong opposition from deputies f the pro-government bloc "Member for Stability and Progress" (PSP) including the tenure of senators and the leadership of CEP.

Note that the deputies may intervene onlmy on the articles modified by the Senators. If the deputies vote as is, the legislation of the Senate, it will then be forwarded to the Executive for publication in the Official Journal "Le Moniteur", if the Executive does not use its right to object...

In cases where dthe deputies bring one or more changes in the articlesv modified by Senators, this is the beginning of a shuttle between the two Houses, until a mutual agreement is reached.

Due to recess of the Lower House, the Head of State will have to convene the deputies in extraordinary session so they decide on the text of the amended electoral law.
