Haiti - Elections : The Senate form the Commission to analyze the electoral law

Monday, Senator Andris Riché, announced that following the decision taken last Friday in Conference of Presidents to the extraordinary, a Senate Committee was formed, consisting of 7 members responsible for analyzing the draft electoral law already voted by the lower house and contested by the pro-government majority bloc "Parliamentarians for Stability and Progress" (PSP) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-9430-haiti-elections-the-saga-of-the-electoral-law-continues.html

Senator Riché predicted that the senators will not vote the legislation in the same terms and that changes will be made, particularly in Article 3-1, which confirms the appointment of a Director General to the Permanent Electoral Council (CEP), and several other items where errors were detected.

To prevent the back and forth of the legislation between the two chambers, Senator Riché informed that the senators were considering working with of deputies within a bicameral Commission so that during the vote on second reading, the deputies can vote in the same direction as the Senate.

Members of the Senate Committee :

Senators : Andris Riché, Anick François Joseph, François Lucas St-Vil, Jean-Baptiste Bien-Aimé, Jean Willy Jean-Baptiste, Pierre Francky Exius and Wenceslas Lambert.

According to Pierre Francky Exius, the composition of the Commission takes into account the different political sensitivities in the Senate. Commissioners have until Friday, September 20 to submit their report to the Senate office.
