Haiti - Economy : Institutionalization of Binational Business Summit

On Tuesday, during a working meeting of monitoring, which was held in Santo Domingo, between private Haitian and Dominican sectors within the framework of dialogue initiated in Miami on August 27 last, the Business Leaders agreed on the need to transform these bilateral discussions, in a space of ​​ongoing dialogue aimed at discuss the challenges of trade relations between the two republics. They are also committed to make this platform a forum for direct discussion between the Haitian and Dominican private sector in order to overcome barriers related to commercial exchanges and define better future perspectives respecting the interests of both parties.

The Office of the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Carlos Morales Troncoso, reiterated their full support for the dialogue between businessmen and businesswomen Haitians and Dominicans.

According to Carlos Morales Troncoso "these business meetings reflect the effective management of relations between the Dominican Republic and the Republic of Haiti and prove that through open and honest dialogue, we can arrive at positive solutions favorable to both countries."

For the Prime Minister lamothe "By supporting the institutionalization of this new dialogue mechanism, our governments are demonstrating their commitment to resolve long-standing problems that have affected trade and investment in the two countries."

Of high-level representatives of the Haitian and Dominican business sector and of two Governments, attended this session of monitoring that focuses among other things, on the organization of the next Business Summit, to be held during the first week of October in Port-au-Prince. The participants pledged to expand the framework for dialogue other businessmen and businesswomen in their respective countries in order to enrich the agenda of the next Summit.

"We will do everything we can to reach a wider participation of all sectors of Haitian business," declared Norma Powell one of the representatives Haitian, "these discussions with our colleagues Dominicans, have enabled us to better understand ourselves and better understand the realities of each country."

Manuel Diaz, a Dominican businessman who had attended the meeting of Miami declared "We are confident that this mechanism of sectoral dialogue, no only allows us to better understand the reality faced by our businessmen and businesswomen, but also help us to generate many opportunities for business sectors of both countries."
