Haiti - Social : Regrettable incident...

Saturday, dozens of people have violently attacked a residence in Bourdon, in the hills above the capital, where was held in private, gay engagement, of a British Humanitarian of the Red Cross and a Haitian, in the presence of about thirty guests.

People threw stones, breaking windows of the residence, burned two vehicles and attempted to set fire to the property. Alerted by witnesses, the National Police and firefighters were quickly on scene to avoid the worst. Several people were injured in the attack "We avoided the worst, because people wanted to kill the participants," said an official of the Police. Sunday people tried again to ransack the residence...

Reacting to this unfortunate incident, Charlot Jeudy, head of the organization defending the rights of homosexuals "Kouraj" declared "This is a criminal act and homophobic. Nothing can justify that people in a private residence are attacked. I hope that justice will react against the perpetrators of this act."

An event all the more regrettable, hat relayed in the international press, it projects an image of intolerance in Haiti, at a time when the country is trying by all means to revive its tourism industry and that Haitians are known for their warm and welcoming sides.
