Haiti - American Airlines : Success of inaugural flight AA2492 in Haiti
Sunday, November 1st, 2026, Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communications announced the official resumption of American Airlines (AA) flights in Haiti, marking the return of the company after approximately two years of interruption. The inaugural flight AA2492 left Miami in the morning at 10:30 a.m. to land successfully at 12:28 p.m. at Cap-Haitien International Airport. This long-awaited daily connection re-establishes an essential air bridge between the United States and the country, facilitating the return of the diaspora, business travel as well as opening up international connections. To underline the importance of this event, the inaugural flight was carried out by an entirely Haitian and Creole-speaking crew, placed under the command of Captain Oliver Jean, who previously held the position of Director of Civil Aviation in Haiti before joining AA. This symbolic moment demonstrates the historic ties that unite American Airlines to Haiti, as well as the company's commitment to providing its passengers with a warm and welcoming travel experience. The ceremony marking this resumption took place in the presence of several personalities, notably the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Director General of the National Civil Aviation Office (OFNAC) and the Director General of the National Airport Authority (AAN). Several local authorities, representatives of the diplomatic corps, airport administration executives and local economic players also honored the event with their presence. In his speech, Minister Pierre Louis underlined the human and economic significance of this event "[...] on November 1st, 2026, the return of American Airlines gives our commitments a particular resonance. The future that we were preparing for takes concrete form : a connection that resumes, families that come closer and new perspectives that open up to our country. For many of our compatriots, the suspension of flights meant much more than difficulty in traveling. It has prolonged separations and made the connection with the country more difficult. Behind every passenger, there is a story. Behind every journey, there is a reason to hope, to work, to return." Pascual Álvarez, Managing Director of South America, Central America and Caribbean Operations for American Airlines said "Pascual Álvarez, Managing Director of South America, Central America and Caribbean Operations for American Airlines. [...] American has proudly served Haiti since 1971, and we are honored to reconnect our Haitian customers with the U.S. and beyond, supporting local tourism, businesses and family connections between our two communities." "The connection between the United States and Haiti is incredibly meaningful, which is especially true in South Florida," said American’s Senior Vice President of MIA Operations Juan Carlos Liscano. "We know the critical role air service plays in linking countries and communities, so we’re beyond proud to reinstate such a consequential connection for so many. We’ll also have our largest-ever schedule out of our Miami hub this winter [...]" This new connection will be operated daily by American Airlines Boeing 737s. It offers passengers a convenient connection between Miami and Haiti, with more than 90 connection options across the United States via the airline's hub in Miami.
