In order to improve access to energy and preserve the environment in the region of Centre, the Italian NGO "Progetto Mondo Mlal" and the Peasant Movement Papaye (MPP), have implemented with a support of 1,235,000 euros of the European Union, a project of energy facility in the city of Hinche.

This project, that targets 70,000 people, aims to improve access of the latter to sustainable energy resources, while promoting the creation of jobs in the agricultural and energy sectors. The component "Energy for Life" of this project, has already allowed to establish a workshop of manufacture of solar panels to provide alternative to the population at the energy level.

The establishment of nurseries, helped to start the production of 120,000 seedlings of different species, which will be used to reforest and help preserve the environment.

The transformation of the bagasse [fibrous residue of sugarcane] into briquettes and their use instead of charcoal, is also among the activities of the project, which aims to reduce the pressure on tree resources in the region and improve the living environment of residents.
