Haiti - Energy : Few EDH customers pay their bill in the North East...

The electrification of the Northeast, funded by the Treasury to the tune of about 300 million gourdes, was designed to provide the Department of North East, of a single power plant to feed the main towns of the North-East, following the construction of 70 km of transmission line connecting the major cities of Ouanaminthe, Fort Liberté, Terrier Rouge and Trou du Nord.

On Wednesday, the President Martelly, proceeded at the inauguration of the Power Plant of Chévry (Fort Liberté), in operation since November 2012. With its 5.75 MW of installed capacity, the Central of Chévry provides six hours of electricity per day to the cities of the Northeast. Despite this substantial investment, Monthly revenue of the Department in its entirety, does not exceed 300,000 gourdes, only 10% of the cost of fuel !

Ms. Andress Apollon the Director General of the EDH stressed the importance of energy in the development of communities and took the opportunity to launch an appeal to customers of the company, to regularize their situation in order to facilitate better distribution of the electricity. A regularization that should be facilitated by the opening of the new Administrative building of the EDH, which will allow now to collect all meter requests, of services, and complaints from communities of Fort-Liberté, Derac, Ferrier, Ouanaminthe, Terrier Rouge, Trou du Nord and others.

Given this deficit situation, and following the inauguration of the new administrative center, the EDH hopes to be able to encourage people to go there, to pay the electrical energy consumed, which will allow to the EDH to achieve breakeven and eventually, hopefully, increase the hours of service...

For his part, the Head of State urged the population to pay for the service they receive, noting that "The power distribution will reduce insecurity and foster the creation of jobs and businesses in these areas."
