Haiti - Climate : The Head of State invites the population to vigilance and solidarity

Wednesday, June 5 at Fort Liberté, the President Michel Martelly, in the presence of David Bazile, the Minister of Interior and Territorial Communities, Mr. Hugo Charles, Departmental Delegate Northeast, the Deputy of the Constituency, Mr. Bilgot Colas, the Mayor of the City of Fort Liberté, Guitheau Pierre, of Philippe Cinéas, State Secretary of Public Works and Mr. Richter Tipton, a representative of the American Embassy, proceeded to the inauguration of the Departmental Emergency Operations Center (COUD) of North-East...

The Head of State, satisfied with the construction work of hree buildings, which will host the COUD, wishes h owever, provide this structure with adequate facilities to better serve the population in case of extreme natural hazards "It is not enough to have beautiful buildings to house the COUD, it also requires appropriate equipment and qualified personnel for a better result in civil protection," promising to take measures to make this COUD more effective. This initiative aims to prevent the loss of human lives and material recorded during the last few decades across the country and also quickly rescue families in case of emergency.

In addition, the Head of State urged the youth to join the officials of the Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) to strengthen its actions during any period of climate risks.

The COUD of Northeast, built at a cost of U.S. $ 2.4 million, is part of the program of construction of 10 COUD through 10 departments, for a total of 34 million U.S. dollars, whose 10 million are available for the training of the agents of the DPC, and the purchase of appropriate equipment.

This center is one of several other under construction in the departments of the country, has a fire station to strengthen relief and assistance to the population.
