Haiti - Elections : Swearing in, installation and election of members of the Bureau of CTCEP

Friday, April 19, the 9 members of College Transitional of Permanent Electoral Council (CTCEP), whose specific mandates to organize the upcoming senatorial elections, municipal and local, were sworn in before the Court of Cassation (Road of Frères) in the presence of Me Jean Renel Sanon, who represented the President Martelly in Venezuela, members of the diplomatic corps including the U.S. ambassador to Haiti, Pamela White, parliamentarians, representatives of political parties, civil society and relatives and friends of the new advisers.

After receiving the amplification of the hands of the Minister of Justice, Me Jean Renel Sanon, the new electoral advisers have sworn "to implement and enforce the provisions of the electoral law and perform their duties with dignity, independence, impartiality and patriotism."

Pierre Simon Georges and Emmanuel Menard who spoke on behalf of all advisers have pledged to achieve free, credible, democratic and honest elections.

The members of CTECP have not minimized the challenges ahead, they have expressed confidence to conduct successfully the mission entrusted to them. Representatives of the Judiciary stressed that national interests should take precedence over individual interests, in order to respect the rules of democracy. Those of the Legislature insisted on the necessity of holding free, democratic and credible elections and those of the Executive on the civic responsibility of members of CTCEP throughout the electoral process.

Subsequently, in a separate ceremony at headquarters of CTCEP in Petion-Ville, the nine members were installed in their function. In the evening, the members of CTCEP ahve proceeded to the election of members of the Bureau of the Electoral Council.

Emmanuel Ménard (Representative of the Executive) was elected President, against his opponent Léopold Berlanger (Representative of the Judiciary)
