Haiti - Social : Martelly launches the Week of the Haitian Diaspora

The President of the Republic, Michel Martelly, launched yesterday Wednesday at the Karibe Convention Center, the activities of the Week of the Diaspora. The opening ceremony was attended by a myriad of representatives of associations of the Haitian Diaspora, of compatriots from various countries of the Americas, of artists, of members of the Government of the Republic and the Diplomatic Corps.

He took the opportunity to give the assurance that his administration is working tirelessly to ensure that the future generations do not have to expatriate.

"Living abroad should be a choice and not the result of poor governance or structural problems," stressed the President of the Republic who promised the establishment of structures capable to gather relevant and dynamic personalities of the Diaspora for the sustainable development of Haiti.

He also reminded the Diaspora, to all those who have doubts about their future in the country, that Haiti was and remains a land of great opportunities "Gen kòb nan kakawo – nan kafe – nan vetivè – nan lotèl - nan pò ak nan aeropò- nan sit touristik, nan konstriksyon, nan inivèsite peyi a bezwen, nan lopital ki fèt pou byen jere...", he declared.

For her part, Mrs. Bernice Fidélia, the Minister of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE), a former active member of the Haitian Diaspora in the United States, praised the efforts already made by the administration Martelly-Lamothe to regularize the situation and status of the Haitian diaspora.

Mrs. Fidelia announced the issuance of the National Identity Card (CIN) for the Haitians living abroad, the adoption of new legislation in order to facilitate their integration and participation in the affairs of their country, including the elections. in addition, she also announced the organization of a draw : The Diaspoloto.

The Week of the Diaspora which runs until April 21, 2013 is for the Head of State a rendezvous capital in the struggle for the integration and participation of the diaspora in the socio-economic and political life of Haiti.
