Haiti - Social : 33 migrants intercepted off the coast of Jamaica

Saturday, the Jamaican police reported that 33 illegal migrants [20 men, 4 women and 9 children] from Haiti, trying to reach the United States, were intercepted off the parish of Portland [northeast coast of Jamaica]. They were brought ashore by a coastguard ship, Saturday evening. Some migrants needed assistance when disembarking. Sunday, they were housed in a Centre of Red Cross, the health officials and immigration have also assessed the condition of migrants.

Over the years, Jamaica has been a relatively rare stop for irregular migrants. But last month, another group of 25 Haitian migrants was arrested after landing on a beach in the same Jamaican parish and returned to Haiti.
