Haiti - Religion : Exhibition «Vodou» at the Canadian Museum of Civilization
From November 15 to February 23, 2014, the Canadian Museum of Civilization proposes to discover, at the Special Exhibitions Gallery C, the Haitian Vodou. Presented for the first time in Canada, the exhibition "Vodou" includes more than 300 artifacts from the Collection Marianne Lehmann, one of the largest in the world.
Recognized as one of the most important exhibitions and most complete on the voodoo art, it will allow the public to "discover how adherents of this religion live and understand their own spiritual tradition."
Far from the clichés conveyed by Hollywood [doll needles and zombies], this exhibition wants to show the truth and tries to be as faithful as possible to the history and the current position of voodoo in everyday life. The objects presented are accompanied by texts, documentary films and audiovisual testimonies by Vodouists from Canada's Haitian community.
Supported by the Embassy of Haiti in Canada, this exhibition is realized in collaboration with the Foundation for the Preservation, Enhancement and the Production of Cultural Haitian works in partnership with the Museum of Ethnography in Geneva (Switzerland) and the Tropenmuseum of Amsterdam (Netherlands)
