Haiti - Economy : Government Policy in term of assistance

Wilson Laleau, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, together with the Secretary of State for Industry and the Director General of his Administration, has met Friday with members of the Central Committee of merchants of Tabarre around of efforts of the Government to help merchants to resume their activities.

This meeting was an opportunity for the Minister to clarify the Government's strategy for sinister, which consists now, to provide the necessary accompaniment to victims, at the level of financial institutions to facilitate their recapitalisation.

He also confirmed that the census of the merchants of Tabarre was completed and that it was sent to the Senior Officials of the State for appropriate action. It appears that on the 3,000 merchants who suffered losses during the fire of Market, only 5 were equipped with an Professional Identity Card (CIP) and 95 with a Patente issued by the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI).

At the end of the meeting, a consensus was reached on the following points :

1. The Central Committee of Merchants of Market Tabarre is the only legitimate interlocutor with the Government of Haiti ;

2. Those interested in the financing program, will have to ithdraw their professional identity card to the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MCI) and Patente to the DGI, so that they may be recognized as a trader, enabling them, to benefit from the assistance of the Haitian State. The identification will be made ​​from the database of Committee and merchants interested will not have to move for the occasion. MCI's support is guaranteed for the entire process.

3. Issuance costs of the CIP will be cut by half by the MCI for this operation, is 250 Gourdes.

4. The strategy of accompanying of merchants, with the financial institutions and of micro-credit, constitutes the Government Policy in term of assistance.

The Minister Laleau ended the meeting, by reminding the members of the Committee, that the President had chosen to preferred this real and lasting solution to enable them to regain control of their destinies, hrough the recapitalization of their companies.
