Haiti - Politic : The President Martelly evokes 1791, to fight the social evils
The President Michel Martelly, recalled, on the occasion of this August 23, marking the abolition of slavery, the spirit of the indigenous uprising of 1791 that led to the abolition of this scourge. This date believes the Head of State, must be, today, the opportunity for the Haitian people to fight with all his strength against the "malnutrition, illiteracy and unemployment," scourges that affect a large part of the population since the earthquake of January 2010 "We can and we must be proud that here, on our land, blacks have affirmed their humanity.
Recall that in the night of August 22 to 23, 1791, began on the island of Hispaniola an indigenous uprising decisive for the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade. This revolutionary movement, whose the Haitians are deeply proud today, would change the course of history in Africa, Europe, America and the Caribbean, and put an end to a practice that began about 400 years ago and caused the relocation of 15 to 20 million blacks.
Today, like the instigators of this revolutionary movement, the President Martelly, is tackling a number of challenges to change the living conditions of of the Haitian people. With a political vision based on the 5 "E" [Environment, Energy, Education, Rule of Law, Job], the Head of State said he was determined to bring responses to the problems of the population in order to lead the country on the path of sustainable development and progress.
International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition, held under the auspices of UNESCO since 1994, is the result of a resolution of the UN General Assembly to commemorate the victims and those who opposed.
