Haiti - Diplomacy : Strengthening of cooperative ties with Brazil

The Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe received, Wednesday, July 11, 2012, in his private residence, Jose Luis Machado e Costa, the Brazilian Ambassador accredited in Haiti.

The strengthening of cooperation ties between the two nations was at the heart of this diplomatic meeting on the organization of legislative and municipal elections in Haiti, the security, energy and education.

In support to these elections, the Brazilian diplomat has pledged an additional one million U.S. dollars and renewed the determination of his government to work to strengthen democracy in Haiti.

Moreover, the Brazilian Chancellor congratulated the Government Martelly-Lamothe for his commendable initiatives in terms of strengthening of the rule of law, of judicial reforms, in particular, the establishment of the Superior Council of Judicial Power (CSPJ).

On education, the Prime Minister Lamothe, held talks with Ambassador of Brazil to obtain a favorable response to his request for renewal of scholarships awarded to Haitian students.

As for the security issue, Jose Luis Machado e Costa has shown a willingness to support the efforts of the Government Martelly-Lamothe for restructuring the National Police of Haiti, expressing Brazil's interest to support the efforts of Haiti, in his need to strengthening the police force, particularly at the level of rural police and of the Rapid Response Unit.

The Brazilian ambassador also confirmed the support of Brazil in the implementation of solar energy programs in the Artibonite Department.
