Haiti - Agriculture : Database on the agricultural sector

As part of the agricultural revival announced by the Government, the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR) has organized a meeting Wednesday with with the private sector entrepreneurs. During this meeting the Ministry outlined the constraints found in crops, especially the mango season (francisques) and indicated that he planned to establish a better control over all agricultural production in Haiti, because U.S. importers require that from 2014, specific information are given on the products among other : planting area (farms), storage, treatment...

So that Haiti maintains its capacity to export, it is necessary that the country develops an information system on the origin of all agricultural products and the treatment that are done on these products. Recall that Haiti was denied to export mangoes francisques because of the presence of fruit flies.

This group of private entrepreneurs, will have to organize, by the end of July, a further meeting with the agricultural technical and departmental Directions, on the necessity of creating a database. Through these meetings, the MARNDR intends to rationalize the agricultural sector, working to the establishment of a database on the whole projects of the Ministry, on all actors of agricultural sector (exporters, importers, producers, farmers etc..) and on all the types of crops (mangoes, but, potato, rice, cassava, etc...)

Note that besides the representatives of MARNDR, this group of entrepreneurs was composed of Jean Maurice Buteau of the ANEM (National Association of Exporters of Mangoes), Bernard Fils-Aimé, President of the Foundation Voila, Kurt Jean-Charles, Executive Director of "Solutions", a firm that develops software database and finally John E. Hanson of "Mercy Corps", a group using a computer recording system of producers, who shared his experience.
