Haiti - Reconstruction : Laurent Lamothe at Little Haiti Cultural Center

On Friday, the Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe was in Miami, where he met several local elected officials and members of the Haitian community, at Little Haiti Cultural Center. After having warmly congratulated the community and elected officials for their roles beneficial to Haiti, he called for closer cooperation in the reconstruction of the country.

"[...] On behalf of the Haitian government, I really wanted to congratulate you for the work you do here. That's what we need, we need conscious and consistent Haitians that makes advance the country, who keep all their connections with the country, so they can use the position they have in the United States, to be beneficial for Haiti.

Haiti needs all the help it receives, as you know, the country has problems. Now, there are people who will put Haiti back on track of development [...] I believe that with good decisions, good governance and also with the will to succeed, the country will be better in 4 years. Once again, I agree with you at 100%, we must work much closer to each other, it is necessary that the exchanges are done consistently, we invite you to come to Haiti [...] so we can work on the integration, to work on specific projects [...]

We have already be able to work on airports and ports, I think this is a first step, now we have to develop other projects such as [...] we have to build public buildings, roads to remake, the security... [...] Haiti will invest over one billion dollars over the next four years for the refoundation of the country [...] I think you also, you are part of this movement.

...I want a country where things work, where there are opportunities for everyone and where the most disadvantaged class, found a government that is there, who extends his hand to help him out of its situation. We want to reduce inequality [...] we want to fight for the people have security and justice, justice for all, there are clear signals that were sent to the Ministry of Justice on the issue of bandits, kidnappings... there will be very strong measures that will be taken to eliminate, to minimize these factors. This is another type of technical assistance, we might have with the police from here, because we need all types of equipment to be able to give and maintain security.

Also the question of roads, because in Haiti we know we have to rebuild 600 kilometers of road in four years [...] we must find people to roads, bridges... [...] You should see between you [...] even if they are technical assistance for supervision, because the latter is a big problem we have, we have the people to make the roads, but not those to make the supervision of roads, the maintenance also..."
