Haiti - Reconstruction : Rehabilitation of gullies in Port-au-Prince

As part of the implementation of Resolution 1927 of Security Council (June 4, 2010), the Delegation of the West via the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MTPTC) has proposed in priority, the rehabilitation of some gullies in Port-au-Prince in order to support the Government efforts in the areas of sanitation and of the risk management of major natural events.

The launch of this work will take place Monday, March 5, 2012 in the presence of the Departmental Delegate of West, deputies and mayors of the affected areas, as well as the Special Representative of Secretary-General of the United Nations in Haiti.

In its first phase, this project aims to clean up, in collaboration with the MTPTC, the gullies of the most congested waterfront including those of Village de Dieu (4.500 m3), Rue Capois (1.500 m3), and of Théâtre National (4.500 m3). A second phase is planned for the gullies of Fort Dimanche (8820 m3) and of Belvil (1,920 m3), always before the start of the rainy season.

The rehabilitation of each site of gullies, will last about 25 days and will be implemented jointly by engineers of MTPTC and 65 military engineers of the Minustah from Chile, Paraguay, Brazil and Japan, which will make available to these sites 26 dump trucks, 13 excavators and one bulldozer.
