According to the Human Rights Service (HRS) of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), during the second quarter (April 1st to June 30, 2026), at least 1,408 people were killed and 656 injured as a result of violence perpetrated by gangs, self-defense groups, and unorganized members of the population, as well as during operations by security forces and actions by a private military company. Men accounted for 85% of the victims, women 11%, and children 4%.

Sexual violence perpetrated by armed gangs continued, with at least 796 victims of rape (772 women, 23 girls, and one man). The majority of cases, 87%, were gang rapes. 98% of the cases were reported in the West Department.

Gang attacks have escalated in the Artibonite department, and the Village de Dieu gang has launched incursions into the Southeast department. Outside of Port-au-Prince, gangs have continued to gain ground. In Artibonite, a large agricultural region in the Northwest, armed groups attacked villages, killing residents in their homes and farmers working in their fields. Further south, the Village de Dieu gang carried out several raids around Séguin, an area largely spared from this type of violence.

Meanwhile, during this same period, at least 81 people were kidnapped for ransom by gangs, 63% of them in the West department and 27% in the Artibonite department.

At least nine civilians, including six children, were killed or wounded by explosive drones.

Three police officers were killed and two others wounded.

In the vast Cul-de-Sac Plain and in Cité Soleil, the capital, rival gangs engaged in extremely violent clashes for control of territory and illicit income. The fighting left 463 dead, while hundreds more were injured or raped. More than 18,000 residents fled their homes, and health and education services were suspended.
