Inauguration of the new air link connecting Newark (New Jersey) to Cap-Haitien

Stéphanie Smith, the Minister of Tourism, welcomed the inauguration on June 1st of the new direct air link connecting Newark, New Jersey to Cap-Haitien (CAP-EWR), operated by Sunrise Airways, and on June 2nd, New Jersey to Cap-Haïtien (EWR-CAP).

"This new route represents a significant step forward in connecting Haiti with the international community and a major opportunity for the revitalization and development of tourism in the North," the Minister emphasized.

At the invitation of Sunrise Airways, the Ministry of Tourism, through its Northern Departmental Directorate, participated in the inaugural flight ceremony at Cap-Haïtien International Airport. The event brought together numerous prominent figures from the Haitian diaspora, the business community, local government, and several influential individuals, including Haitian-American actor and cultural ambassador Jimmy Jean-Louis.

The Minister of Tourism emphasized the strategic importance of this new air link, a vital bridge between Haiti and its diaspora.

This direct flight is expected to boost visitor arrivals in the north of the country, generating positive spin-offs for the entire tourism value chain, including hotels, restaurants, transportation, handicrafts, tourism services, and local small businesses.

Beyond its economic impact, this new air route offers an exceptional opportunity to promote the heritage and cultural treasures of the far north, such as the Citadelle Laferrière, the Sans-Souci Palace, and other attractions, including beach resorts, which make this region unique in the Caribbean.
