Haiti - Security : Successful sea rescue operation

On the night of Friday, October 24, 2025, the Haitian Coast Guard conducted a search and rescue operation off the coast of Léogâne, following the drifting of the boat "PRINCESS SAM ASIA" (a landing craft flying the flag of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines) at around 9:00 p.m. Two shuttles were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Thanks to effective coordination, all crew members were rescued safely. The barge was towed to Petit-Goâve around 2:00 a.m., with the support of the tactical boat "Dragon."

Despite the success of this operation, the Haitian Coast Guard wishes to remind the general public of the extreme dangers associated with navigation during periods of severe weather. In particular, with the passage of Hurricane Melissa, currently classified as a Cat. 5, sea conditions are extremely perilous.

It is strongly recommended not to venture out to sea during these adverse weather conditions, when winds are strong and swells are high. Strictly adhere to the restriction and safety instructions issued by the Haitian Hydrometeorological Unit (UHM) and the Haitian Maritime and Navigation Service (SEMANHA).

The Coast Guard remains mobilized to protect lives at sea, but your safety also depends on your caution.
