Haiti - Taiwan : Haitian farmers assisted with the maintenance of their machinery

The Taiwan Technical Mission in Haiti (TTM) is working with local specialists to help Haitian farmers get their equipment back up and running. Due to the difficult security situation and blocked land routes in the north and northeast of Haiti in recent years, maintenance of agricultural machinery, such as rice mills and tillers, installed and managed by the TTM has been severely hampered. Multi-service centers run by local associations have encountered difficulties procuring spare parts and recruiting qualified technicians, which has impacted their operations. These associations have contacted the TTM on several occasions, requesting urgent technical assistance. To address these challenges, the TTM team implementing the Rice Production Improvement Project in the North and Northeast of Haiti collaborated with team members working in the Artibonite Valley, who dispatched experienced technicians from its machinery center in the North to assist with diagnostics and technical support.

Working closely with local technicians, TTM agricultural machinery specialists visited 14 associations in the North region, conducting equipment inspections, basic repairs, and on-site training in best practices for operation and maintenance.

These efforts strengthened the operational and maintenance capacities of the region's associations and facilitated the sharing of technical knowledge and experience among farmers.

The local associations expressed their gratitude for this support and indicated to the TTM that they looked forward to continuing their collaboration to establish a sustainable machinery repair system. Together, these reliable partners contribute to Haiti's agricultural development.
