Haiti - Dom. Rep. : 479,908 Haitians returned to Haiti in 2024

The 2024 annual report of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reveals that during the year 2024, 479,908 Haitians returned to Haiti, including 272,713 deportations, 167,069 repatriations (105,644) and 207,195 decided to return to Haiti "voluntarily"...

In addition, 106 foreigners of other nationalities, such as Americans and Cubans, were expelled from the country.

October 2024 stood out as the month with the highest number of expulsions and repatriations in 2024, or 40,715 Haitians, very close to the Government's objective, announced on October 2, 2024 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-43334-haiti-flash-repatriation-of-10-000-haitians-per-week-the-great-hunt-has-begun-in-the-dominican-rep.html to expel 10,000 Haitians in an irregular migratory situation each week. But this figure decreased considerably in the following months, November (28,703) and December 2024 (25,700).

According to the DGM report, the second phase of the "Intelligent System for the Automation of Interdiction Trucks" has been implemented. This system is composed of a geolocation device, entry mechanisms into the rooms of the detention sites and internal video surveillance cameras.

Likewise, transition centers have been renovated and others built in strategic locations such as Haina, Benerito, Santiago, Dajabón, Elías Piña and Jimaní. "This guarantees dignified and safe conditions for immigrants temporarily housed in these facilities, respecting their human rights," the report highlights.

In 2024, 3,316 migratory situation control operations were carried out throughout the country, on foreigners in coordination with the Dominican Army and the National Police, among other institutions.
