Haiti - UN : Advisor Voltaire met António Guterres

On Sunday, September 22, 2024, as part of the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York, Leslie Voltaire, executive member of the Presidential Transition Council (CPT), met with António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Several important topics were at the center of the discussions:

The Secretary-General congratulated Haiti for putting in place governance mechanisms adapted to the management of the political transition. The two men discussed the need to accelerate political reforms. Particular emphasis was placed on the need to strengthen security in the country to ensure that an elected Government is in place by February 2026, as agreed by Haitian stakeholders.

They also agreed to work together to encourage greater international support to combat violence perpetrated by armed gangs. The worrying humanitarian situation in Haiti was also discussed. António Guterres and Leslie Voltaire reaffirmed the importance of coordinating their efforts to improve the living conditions of populations affected by the crisis.

Let's recall that during this 79th General Assembly of the United Nations, the Haitian delegation will have the opportunity to present the priorities of the CPT and to discuss global challenges, including Peace, security and sustainable development.
