Haiti - Spain : Financial and personnel support for the Security Mission in Haiti

José Manuel Albares, the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, recognized that the situation of violence in Haiti "concerned him greatly", and insisted on the fact that Spain has already announced financial support for Haiti as well as its participation, with training personnel, pending the deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS) to support the Haitian National Police (PNH) in its fight against armed gangs.

"The situation in Haiti is a situation that worries us enormously, we are talking about security, physical security for Haitians and a situation of respect for human rights and the dignity of people," Albares declared during a official visit to Panama.

He stressed that despite the levels of violence and insecurity experienced in Haiti, "Spain is one of the few countries that keeps its embassy open," from where they continue to provide "political and diplomatic support", while waiting for the Multinational Mission.

"We have already announced that we are going to participate [...] and we are going to do it both financially, we have already announced an initial amount of 3 million euros, and also through personnel and training for this police operation," while waiting for the deployment of the international contingent, which will be led by Kenya, to materialize.
