USA migration : “Welcome Corps” program

The Biden Administration announced the "Welcome Corps" program. This new program, launched on January 19, 2023, offers American citizens the opportunity to participate in the resettlement of the thousands of refugees who arrive in the United States each year. For this first year, the State Department hopes to recruit 10,000 Americans who can help 5,000 refugees adapt to life in the United States.

Switzerland : Return of Duvalier funds, subject to conditions

Switzerland is ready to return to Haiti the Duvalier family funds frozen since 2002 in Swiss banks, said the Swiss charge d'affaires in the country, Fabrizio Poretti. These funds estimated at more than 6 million US dollars which will be returned to an elected government, however, indicated the diplomat.

Sanctioned, the former Minister of Justice reacts

Asked about the sanctions taken against him by Canada and the United States for his alleged involvement in criminal acts and acts of corruption, the former Minister of Justice Me Berto Dorcé described them as political decisions and maneuvers. Makandal from Africa was a "Hougan" (Voodoo priest) and had a lot of knowledge about the properties of leaves and plants that he used to fight against slavery and sow terror among white people. Unfortunately he was arrested. According to popular tradition, just as he was about to be executed, he suddenly disappeared. Makandal remains for all Haitians a symbol of resistance and freedom.

Shelson Sanon sentenced for slanderous denunciation

Friday, January 20, Judge Gabard Antoine sentenced the named Shelson Sanon to 1 year in prison for slanderous denunciation against former senators Joseph Lambert and Edwin Daniel Zény as well as businessman Steve Kawly. However, imprisoned in the national penitentiary for almost 10 years, he was able to regain his freedom under the Lespinasse law.

PAPJazz 2023 (Program)

The Ambassador of France in Haiti, Fabrice Mauriès and the Director of French Institute in Haiti, Vincent Hommeril attended Thursday, January 19 at the official launch of the 16th edition of the PAPJazz festival which in Cap-Haitien. Postponed twice, the festival is making a comeback to the delight of artists and the public.
