Tuesday, November 22, 2022, Acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry attended the swearing-in ceremony of Me Jean Joseph Lebrun, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-38130-haiti-justice-the-pm-appoints-me-jean-joseph-lebrun-as-president-of-the-court-of-cassation.html , new President of the Court of Cassation and also President of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ).

In his speech, the Head of Government declared "[...] The decision to appoint a President to the Court of Cassation is part of the perspective of finding solutions that work and can meet constitutional principles" underlining "This appointment wants to be respectful of the spirit of the Constitution, in the sense that the choice fell on a professional judge who holds a mandate at the Court which does not suffer from any dispute and on a Magistrate who has proven himself in the judicial system and which enjoys a high reputation for competence, integrity and honesty [...]

[...] I call on judges in general, and members of the CSPJ in particular, to lend a hand in the fight against insecurity and prolonged preventive detention, which constitutes a serious violation of the rights of citizens.

We need justice that can change images and that plays its true role. Because it remains an important player in the production of security, and a leading player in the fight against the impunity that is destroying the country.

[...] The CSPJ must therefore accomplish its mission of guaranteeing the discipline of judges and ensuring that each judge is answerable for his acts, his absence and his breaches of duty."
