Haiti - FLASH : Warrant to bring against Father Fritz Désiré in the case of arms trafficking

Following the refusal to appear at the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ) for hearing in the context of the case relating to the weapons and ammunition discovered on July 14, 2014 at the Wharf of the National Port Authority (APN) hidden in an imported container under the franchise held by Episcopal Church of Haiti (EEH) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37154-haiti-flash-seizure-of-weapons-and-ammunition-imported-under-cover-of-the-franchise-of-the-episcopal-church-of-haiti.html , an arrest warrant was issued this week against Father Fritz Désiré, Director of Saint-Pierre College and former President of the Standing Committee of the Episcopal Church of Haiti (EEH).

He is on a list of suspects and is suspected of alleged involvement in the arms and ammunition trafficking case.

After the arrest this week of Jean Mary Jean Gilles, the accountant of the diocesan office of the Episcopal Church https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37481-haiti-flash-arrest-of-the-accountant-of-the-episcopal-church-of-haiti-in-the-case-of-arms-trafficking.html , and that of Father Frantz Cole, Diocesan Executive Secretary of the Episcopal Church on August 17 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-37427-haiti-flash-arms-trafficking-father-frantz-cole-in-custody.html accused of arms and ammunition trafficking, smuggling, tax evasion, evasion taxation, illicit enrichment and laundering of assets resulting from serious crimes.

The investigation is tightening around the executives of the EEH, which is sinking into turmoil while other executives of the Episcopal Church of Haiti would be on the list of suspects in the context of this affair, according to a close source of the investigation.

In addition 4 senior priests supported by part of the Clergy, Fathers: Kesner Ajax, Joseph Mathieu Brutus, Dr. Frantz J. Casséus and Joseph Tancrel Diègue, the day after the arrest of Jean Mary Jean Gilles, in an open letter dated August 24, 2022, invites the Permanent Committee (PC) of the EEH to resign from their functions in order to allow all the light to be shed by justice in all transparency, in this scandal of trafficking in arms and ammunition in which the Episcopal Church of Haiti, is entangled.

"[...] We formally request that the PC withdraw from the management of the Episcopal Church of Haiti within a reasonable time in order to allow other members of the Clergy and laity not involved in the scandal to lead the file with more credibility and neutrality to facilitate the work of the judicial police and justice [...]" they believe that the PC did not know how to manage the interests of the Church, considering it "[...] Incapable of properly assessing the danger that threatens the Church and its institutions, the President of the PC continues to sign official documents in the name of the Church while the executive secretary, implicated, has been abandoned [...]"
