Haiti - Diplomacy : Condemnation and appeal of «Core Group»

The Core Group made up of Ambassadors from Germany, Brazil, Canada, Spain, the United States of America, France, the European Union, as well as Cristóbal Dupouy, Special Representative of the Organization of American States (OAS) and Helen La Lime Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) says it is "deeply concerned by the supply of petroleum products crisis which has affected the country for several weeks, as well as by its humanitarian impact, economic and social impact on the Haitian population."

The members of the Group "condemn the violent criminal acts which contribute to exacerbate the already deep suffering of Haitians and hamper the work of the Haitian National Police. "

The Core Group also calls on all political and economic actors in the country to "act responsibly in the interest of the Haitian people, and to give priority to the restoration of law and order as well as to the normal functioning of strategic infrastructures" underlining "A peaceful context is essential for the restoration of the authority of the State, for the effective treatment of the problem of insecurity, and for the emergence of a broad consensus on the most appropriate way of leading the country towards the holding of general elections."
