Haiti - Weather : The mountains defeated Emily

To 4pm, Emily, exhausted by the mountain chain, which separates the island of Hispaniola [between the Dominican Republic and Haiti], degenerated into a trough of low pressure (tropical depression). Its remnants, centered at 19.0 degrees north and 75.0 degrees West, in the passage between Cuba and Haiti, is moving at 26 km/h (16 mph) along a trajectory west northwest. The winds are now of 55 km/h (40 mi/h) in squalls.

However, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported that heavy rains continue to fall on the island of Hispaniola. In Haiti, people living in tent camps, fear the rains that accompany the remains of Emily and the damage that they can still cause to their fragile housing.

Health officials feared for their part, a resurgence of cholera due to flooding. The Director General of the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP), Dr. Gabriel Thimotée, invited the patients and the health staff working in the Cholera Treatment Centres (CTC) to reach the hospitals. In north of the country, over three hundred families were affected by floods and several CTC were destroyed.

The emergency call center of Port-au-Prince, received between Wednesday, August 3, 8:00 pm and this Thursday 8:00 am 1.107 calls, whose 926 concerned requests for information on the red alert in connection with Emily.

Haiti continues to maintain its level of vigilance to red, while in the Dominican Republic, the level of vigilance begins to be lowered in several provinces.
