Haiti - FLASH : Conflict with the DR over a canal diverting the Massacre river to Haiti

On Tuesday, Haitian and Dominican authorities met in Dajabòn to try to find a solution to the conflict that was triggered by the construction of a canal on the Ounaminthe side to divert the Massacre River into the territory of Haiti.

During the meeting no type of agreement was reached, due to mutual accusations, the Haitian authorities declared that the works had been authorized by the Government of President Jovenel Moïse, to try to irrigate the agricultural lands in the towns of Meac, Ferie and Derac, adjacent to the municipality of Dajabòn.

Governor Rosalba Peña arranged for the meeting to be postponed until next Tuesday, in order to include all parts of the two territories including the ministries of foreign affairs and the armed forces to resolve the conflict that this triggered,

The Haitian delegation was composed of: Smith Augustin, Ambassador of Haiti accredited to the Dominican Republic, François Guerrier, consul in Dajabòn, Joseph, vice-Governor of Ounaminthe, Ernetz Lavaux, vice-consul, Nes My Marieflue of humang rights and several police officers.

The Dominican delegation included for its part: Governor Rosalba Peña (who chaired the meeting), the Dominican Consul in Ounaminthe, José Valenzuela, General Miguel Ángel Burgos, Commander of the fourth brigade with a Mao seat, Colonels Desiderio Duran, Commander of the 10th battalion, Juan Adames of Cesfront, Santiago Riverón the mayor of Dajabón and Eduard Pérez, provincial director of the environment among others…
