On Wednesday, the Communication Office of the Presidency confirmed that President Jovenel Moïse had accepted the resignation of the Government headed by Joseph Jouthe and also confirmed the appointment of Minister Claude Joseph as interim Prime Minister.

In recent weeks, President Moïse has observed the deterioration of the security situation in the country where acts of kidnapping have increased considerably, particularly in the metropolitan area and "constitute proof that the responses of the Government as well as those of the Supreme Council of the National Police (CSPN) to the problem of insecurity have proved ineffective."

Faced with these facts, the Head of State guarantees the population that "discussions will be continued with a view to achieving the consensus necessary for the political and institutional stability of Haiti, the Communication Office setting up, as soon as possible, an inclusive Government which will have, among other things, as a mandate, to address, in all its dimensions and with all speed, the problem of insecurity."

To this end, "emergency measures have already been taken to ensure the safety of people and property and to initiate legal proceedings against the perpetrators of the atrocities denounced and to proceed with the unconditional disarmament of the gangs."

The Communication Office recalls that "The responsibility of the Head of State who intends to quickly install a government of national unity, is to protect, without exclusion, the Haitian population, to secure property on the the whole of the territory and to organize the Referendum and honest, credible and democratic elections at the national level."
