This project that enters within the framework of the reform of sector of Drinking Water and Sanitation is part of a set of activities conducted by the DINEPA in various departments of the country. Started in 2008, it will serve the entire city of Port-de-Paix, its surrounding neighborhoods and the four towns that are on the supply line, located between Chansolme and the chef lieu of the department of North-West, Port-de-Paix. This is the construction of a water abstractions, of an supply pipe of 10 km and of 16 to 18 inches of diameter. It must provide to the population of Port-de-Paix and its surrounding areas 360 m3 of water per hour.

To store this water, the necessary measures are being considered. Engineers are currently building a metal water tank of 1,000m3. They also install some thirty kilometers of pipes put in network with a diameter ranging from 2 to 12 inches for easy distribution. And, 27 kiosks have been constructed. Five others will be added to that number on the pipe line of Cacao in replacement of the fountains located around the city streets.

In addition, upon request of the inhabitants of areas where connections are difficult to be implemented, the DINEPA plans to build more kiosks. The end of this work funded by the Interamerican Development Bank is scheduled for July 2011. The stage of completion of these works varies from one aspect to another: the abstraction is completed at 100%, the tank and the network to 95%.
