Haiti - FLASH : No growth for the country before 2022

In its latest edition on the global economic outlook, the World Bank is pessimistic about the economy of Haiti which, after negative growth in its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of - 0.9% in 2019 (+ 1.5% in 2018 and 1.2% in 2017) should continue in the red in 2020 (-1.5%) and in 2021 (-0.5%) before a rebound in 2022 (+ 1.4%).

In 2020, in addition to Haiti, 2 other economies will record negative growth in their GDP: Argentina (-1.3%) and Nicaragua (-0.5%), whose economies should, however, rebound in 2021 respectively at + 1.5% and + 0.6%.

In 2022 Haiti will be the only country in the Latin America and Caribbean region to record a contraction in its GDP.

According to World Bank analysts, growth in the Latin America and the Caribbean region in 2020 should reach an average of +1.8% while that of global growth will amount to +2.5%.

The Dominican Republic will remain the leader in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2020, 2021 and 2022 with +5% growth followed in second place by Panama 2020 (+ 4.2%), 2021 (+ 4.6%) and 2022 (+4.8 %).
