Haiti - Economy : MoU in favor of the social responsibility of Haitian companies

The Haitian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIHC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to support the private sector in its approach to corporate social responsibility and the also support its contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Haiti by 2030.

"CCIHC is pleased to be a major partner in the implementation of the SDGs and proud of its ability to engage key players and representatives of the business community as a whole around ambitious and innovative ideas for sustainable development," rejoiced Claudel Dumas, President of CCIHC.

This protocol should help to anchor businesses in their communities, promote wealth creation while calming the social climate, encourage social solidarity, support ecologically sustainable initiatives, encourage more businesses to adopt responsible practices and contribute to improve economic, social, environmental and community indicators.

Moreover, on the sidelines of the signing of the protocol, Fernando Hiraldo, UNDP Resident Representative in Haiti, announced that UNDP had just established a new global strategy to create the SDG Accelerator Laboratories "About 60 of these accelerators will be created in 2019 around the world and the program wishes to support the creation of one of these accelerators in Haiti."
