Haiti - Politic : Open letter from the former Minister of the Environment to the Head of State

In the context of the crisis that our country is going through, former Environment Minister Pierre Simon Georges has sent an open letter to the President of the Republic, Jovenel Moïse, whom we invite you to read :

Letter from Pierre Simon Georges :

"'When the body has failed, we punish the head', it is with these words of Pierre Corneille, that I salute you and recognize that, your commitment since the seizure of power on February 7, 2017, has been to fight the 'status quo' which today plunges the country into the depths of the abyss. And the national and international world subscribed well and waited for the results.

Unfortunately, bad habits that have life too long have managed to defeat your attempts and have also managed to ally leaders who should, despite the differences, accompany you in this fight.

Mr President, for having always told you the truth, as proof of that, I have spoken to the Council of Ministers before the events of 6 and 7 July 2018, where I had clearly taken a stand against the rising of fuel prices at the pump that would inevitably lead to social disintegration and a riot of hunger.

Mr. President, 'Great evils, great remedies' but 'At great moments, great Leaders' and great leaders are those who, like Charles De Gaulle, know how to prevent their people from falling into the despair and chaos. Today you are alone at this crossroads where only advised by the tutelary gods of the Nation, you must choose your place in the history of this country so rich in epics and feats of arms with ups and downs.

Finally, allow me to suggest to you that, while you still have the legitimacy to address the people, to ask for a moratorium to react on their demands and to convene a conference of 3 days where all the political confessions and the active forces of the Nation will together make decisions of men and women of State to the dimension of our history.

Salus populi suprema lex esto (That the well-being of the people is the supreme law)."
