Haiti - Economy : Less than 120,000 taxpayers out of 11 million inhabitants pay taxes

Prime Minister Jean-Henry Céant indicated that the economy in Haiti was stagnant due to economic growth lower than that of the population "From 1998 to 2018 the average growth of our economy was 1.3% per year while the average annual growth rate of the population over this period was 1.8% [...] More inhabitants, fewer resources, reduced domestic production, hence an increase in imports and pressure on the Gourde."

He also mentioned that per capita gross domestic product in Haiti is US $ 765 (per annum) while it is US $ 5,109 in Jamaica and US $ 7,552 in the Dominican Republic, recalling that 80% of the Haitian population lived on less than $ 2 a day.

In addition, on ont ait of a radio of the capital, he recently declared that only 120,000 taxpayers in the country out of 11 million inhabitants paid taxes...
