Haiti - FLASH : Incident in Malpasse, 8 policemen find protection in DR

Saturday, during the riot that took place at the Malpasse border crossing, which killed 6 people including 4 customs officers, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26214-haiti-flash-angry-mob-attacks-the-customs-of-malpasse-at-least-6-dead.html 8 police officers of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) in insufficient number to contain a large angry crowd, in front of the delay of reinforcements and fearing for their life, crossed at 2pm the barrier of the border to seek refuge and protection on the Dominican territory.

The report of the National Police Department of the Border Province of Independencia states that the Haitian police officers in possession of their regulatory weapons and document accrediting them as Haitian police, entered the Dominican territory and were immediately protected by members of the specialized land border security corps (CESFRONT) and their colleagues from the Dominican police, who drove them around 3:30 pm to Jean Alex Luphoil, the Consul of Haiti in Barahona.

Sunday calm prevailed at the border post of Malpasse on both sides of the borders. However, vehicle traffic was very limited between the two countries and no Dominican bus company crossed into Haiti fearing for their passengers.
