Haiti - Politic : Launch of the 8th Edition of the National Day of the Diaspora 2018

Friday, Stéphanie Auguste, the acting Minister of Haitians Living Abroad has launched the 8th edition of the National Diaspora Day (JND 2018) which will be held this year around the sub-theme "Towards a better integration of the Diaspora for a stronger and more prosperous Haiti."

The activities planned for this edition will last for one week and will consist of radio and television broadcasts, conference debates at the ministry and 3 full-scale days including the official ceremonies, on April 19, 20 and 21 at Moulin sur Mer. All these initiatives will take into account government policy for the diaspora and integration in its various aspects, says the Minister.

The JND this year attracted the interest of many compatriots in the diaspora (over sixty) who return to the country to take part in official ceremonies and to express their point of view on the issue of integration.

According to Minister Auguste, this is a real incentive for the Administration Moïse-Lafontant who is convinced "that, by their varied experiences, Haitians established from the outside are an irreplaceable asset for the country and a lever of social and cultural economic development "adding that" Haitian nationals from abroad represent a considerable savings potential. We need to find the mechanisms to value the savings of our compatriots and secure their investments in the country."

Minister Auguste hopes that the activities of the JND 2018 will be an opportunity "to formulate pertinent recommendations that will enable us to initiate useful actions to promote the values that our compatriots from the outside want to bring to the outreach of our country all over the world."
