Haiti - Education : IDB open to expansion of its cooperation in the education sector

Pierre Josué Agénor Cadet, the Minister of National Education accompanied by several officials of the Ministry held a working session with Marcelo Cabrol the Head of the Social, Health and Education Sector of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington on a mission to Haiti at the head of a delegation for about 3 days.

Teacher training, school infrastructure, improvement of governance in public schools, school inspection, reshaping of curricula, rebuilding of the central headquarters of the Ministry were the main topics discussed during the exchanges between the IDB delegation and the Ministry officials.

Minister Cadet hailed the dynamic co-operation with the IDB, which has led to progress in the education sector, particularly in the area of school and early childhood infrastructure, and expressed the wish to expand the areas of co-operation with the IDB to continue the reforms initiated within the education sector.

Mr Cabrol said he was in favor of opening new areas of cooperation with the Ministry to reinforce the actions already under way, while expressing certain concerns, notably on the curriculum issue.

The IDB Resident Representative in Haiti, Luis Echeverria, who accompanied Marcelo Cabrol, confirmed the financial availability of his institution for further support to Haiti as part of the next education sector funding.

During his stay, Marcelo Cabrol plans to visit several cooperation projects in execution in the country, especially in the North-West.
