Haiti - Culture : Photo exhibition of Haiti, taken by children

The Office of Public Affairs of the Embassy of the United States of America is pleased to invite amateur photographers, lovers of culture and art, and the general public to take part in the opening of the photo exhibition "Lavi Jodiya". The photos are works of poor children, showing their current visions of Haiti.

Within the framework of this project, FotoKonbit, in partnership with the Cultural Section of the Embassy of the United States, has organized three workshops in three different areas of the country in early January. Participants learned to use digital cameras under the direction of Haitian and American specialists. Through their photos, they expressed the effects of U.S. aid in their community while demonstrating the aspects needing further assistance.

This initiative has enabled young people to share their lives, motivating them to participate actively in the development of their communities and get involved more to communicate their views and expectations regarding to the needs of their region. Photos will be on sale for the benefit of children during the exhibition.

This exhibition will be held from Friday, January 28 until Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Galerie Monnin #19 of the street Lamarre in Pétion-Ville. The gallery is open from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Saturday and closed Sunday.
