Haiti - Economy : Strategy to boost growth and increase competitiveness

Thursday, Day 2 of the Forum on Competitiveness and Investment (FCI) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22179-haiti-economy-pm-opens-the-forum-on-competitiveness-and-investment.html at the Convention Center of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH), with the participation of Minister of Agriculture Carmel André Béliard and two invited international experts : Daniel Isenberg, Professor of Entrepreneurial Practice at Babson College, Massachusetts, United States.

Professor Isenberg outlined his strategy to boost growth and increase the competitiveness of companies. Already experimented in several regions of the world, including South America and the Middle East, this strategy consists in the creation of business ecosystems aligned with growth. Isenberg, taking into account the specificities of each country, emphasized the possibility for Haitian companies to achieve growth and to be competitive if they respect the principles of scaling, the backbone in its strategy. So he insisted that growth was not a natural phenomenon, but something that can be learned.

Firmly believing that growth can be achieved quickly, he has established a set of criteria to achieve the objectives set. Isenberg thus proposes to create an environment where the largest number of companies can scale up, also to build each ecosystem on the assets according to local capacities.

Representing the Moïse-Lafontant Administration, Carmel André Béliard, the Minister of Agriculture recalled that agriculture is a priority sector for the Head of State, determined to fight against food insecurity and to revive the Haitians economy to provide better living conditions for the most vulnerable.

In this sense, he outlined the determinants of competitiveness, both nationally and internationally, identified by the President on which actors must act in order to offer more opportunities to the population. These include: improving competitiveness; to act on the regulatory framework; to define a strategy to be adopted; to create appropriate infrastructure and, lastly, to facilitate financing, including access to credit.

This Forum on Competitiveness and Investment (FCI) is an important step in the vision of bringing together all the forces of the nation to bring a concerted solution to the problems of the country.
