Haiti - FLASH : Equivalence of Haitian Studies in Chile

Following the signing last March of an agreement between President Jovenel Moïse and the President of the Republic of Chile, Michelle Bachelet https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20490-haiti-chile-president-bachelet-addresses-the-issue-of-illegal-haitians-in-her-country.html a decree was promulgated in the Chilean Diario Oficial, which came into force on Wednesday, concerning the "Supplementary Agreement to the Basic Agreement for Scientific and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Chile and the Government Of the Republic of Haiti for Equalization and Equivalence and Recognition of Primary, Medium and Secondary Education".

The agreement, which came into effect Wednesday, will directly benefit citizens of both countries who have migrated in search of a better life for whom the recognition of their studies constitutes a decisive step in their integration into the society of the country which welcomes them.

The signing of this document reaffirms Chile's commitment to Haiti and the growing Haitian community in Chile, which this year surpasses 60,000 people.

Until now, Haitians who arrived in Chile could not certify their studies because of the absence of this agreement, which makes it difficult for the labor sector to generate employment contracts, compelling them to complete full secondary education or to enroll in adulthood. This measure also complements the implementation of the Provisional School Identifier (Identificador Provisorio Escolar - IPE) for migrant students, replacing the so-called "RUT 100", to facilitate the enrollment process and access to benefits for these students.
