Haiti - Politics : Fire station in Port-au-Prince, Canada could reverse its decision

Following Haiti's intervention, the Government of Canada may reverse its decision to abandon the construction of a fire station in Port-au-Prince estimated at $2.6 million

Let's recall that this project initiated by Régis Labeaume, Mayor of Quebec City in 2012 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-7262-haiti-reconstruction-important-delegation-led-by-michaelle-jean.html and confirmed in 2015 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12942-haiti-reconstruction-port-au-prince-will-have-its-new-fire-station.html had been canceled a little over two weeks ago https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21509-haiti-flash-fire-station-project-in-port-au-prince-failed-because-haiti.html Haiti was not able to make land available for the construction of this fire station with clear titles of property, surveyed and accompanied by the geotechnical studies of the soils.

However, the decision of the Haitian Government of 30 June to publish a decree declaring several land of public utility, whose one intended for the construction of this fire station for the benefit of the fire brigade of Port-au-Prince https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21457-haiti-flash-declaration-of-public-utility-of-land-in-port-au-prince.html solve the main obstacle to the realization of this project.

In light of this new information brought to Ottawa's attention, following the intervention of the Government of Haiti, the Federal Government confirms that the Fire Station Project in Haiti is not closed and is still under study.
