Haiti - Politics : Moïse brings together 8 mayors and made promises against insalubrity

Monday at the National Palace, President Jovenel Moïse, met with the mayors of the 8 communes of the metropolitan area around the ways and means to mobilize to combat lasting insalubrity in the capital and its surroundings.

This important meeting, following last July's meeting between the Chief of Staff of President Wilson Laleau and the mayors of the metropolitan region, allowed the Head of State to discuss the need for public services to fight hard against the rubbish encumbering the streets of the capital. Moïse said he wants to work to strengthen the capacities of communes by providing them with adequate materials and equipment for the implementation of their sanitation policy.

The return of staff of sanitary officers, the implementation of a sanitation plan for the areas of Bolosse, Saline and Croix-des-Bossales, the clearing of gullies and drainage of canals in the different neighborhoods of the metropolitan area were some of the points addressed by the various actors who all affirmed their willingness to work to change the face of the capital and its bordering communes.

The Head of State expressed his willingness to involve all public institutions concerned with the issue of sanitation and promised to the mayors that he will spare no effort to allow the populations of the area Metropolitan and the rest of the country to operate in a healthier environment.
